SPENCER – Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire opened the season with a split in a pair of non-conference duals on Thursday.

The Titans lost to Spencer 57-18, but edged Okoboji 42-39.

“I thought all the kids went out and wrestled hard and put up a good fight,” said GTRA coach Mike Jensen. “We have a lot of young wrestlers that have little mat time that went out and did their job.”

Both GTRA and Okoboji won seven matches, but with nearly all matches decided pin or forfeit, the most important match turned out to be a 7-2 loss by GTRA’s Jordan Thompson to Adam Dublinski.

Giving up three teams points instead of six led to the Titans victory.

The Titans had four pins in the match. At 182, Kodi Fergeson defeated Riley Anderson in 4:43. At 220, Kyle Long defeated Cole Millard in 47 seconds. At 106, Cody Marrlow won in 1:23 against Jack Humphrey. At 145, Ty Gibson needed just 28 seconds to beat Brandon Adams and at 160, Tyler Hoffman won in 2:51 over Layne Rickman.
