Estherville Lincoln Central came up with a Lakes Conference win over Storm Lake, 45-34, and then lost a non-conference match to MOC-Floyd Valley, 47-26, on Thursday. ELC is now 4-4 in dual matches this season.

“I thought we wrestled pretty well overall,” said ELC coach Dan Hewitt. “Our little guys have some work to do, our middle weights wrestled well and our bigger guys have some work to do.”

The Midgets had five pins against Storm Lake while giving up four pins.

Oscar Ramirez (138) pinned Juan Rios in 1:21; Thomas Bortvit (145) pinned Cesar Loera in 3:30; Blake Gjerde (16) pinned Brice Hartnett in 1:35; Austin Egeland (195) pined Jose Acebedo in 1:48 and Chase Bonner (22) pinned Jesse Wolver in 1:17. Also Billy Snyder (170) won 6-0 over Eriberto Flores.

Zackary Snyder (106) and Joel McCoy (113) both received forfeits while ELC forfeited at 285.

ELC didn’t have as much success against an MOC-Floyd Valley squad, which hasn’t lost a dual yet this season. Part of their strength is in the lower weights-106-126.

ELC held out Oscar Ramirez, who is dealing with some issues

“We’ve got some battered bodies and he’s one of them right now,” said Hewitt.

ELC came up with three pins and two major decisions. Bortvit wrestled at 138 and pinned Joshua Dahl in 2:56.

“I like how Thomas I wrestling right now,” said Hewitt. “He’s doing a nice job for himself and for the team.”

Gjerde (160) pinned Jake Blankers in 24 seconds and Chase Bonner (220) pinned Tanner Kaptien in 49 seconds. Also Cole Budach (132) won 11-2 over Matt Dahl and Snyder (170) won 16-2 over Trevor Huss.
