ELC?rally falls short vs. JCC

JACKSON, Minn. – Estherville Lincoln Central rallied from a 41-27 halftime deficit to take a lead against Jackson County Central on Monday.

But the Jays came roaring back with a rally of their own to win 82-70 over the Midgets.

Carsten Bosch led the Midgets with 21 points while shooting 6-of-9 from the field. He also had three steals. David Hughes poured in 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field. He also had eight rebounds and four steals.

Justin Heinrichs finished with nine points, three assists and three steals.

Joe Heinrichs had eight points and three steals. Also Rod Fuller had six points, Clay Tredway had four and Bryce Mann had two points.

Titans rally to defeat WBM

RUTHVEN – Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire swept the season series with West Bend-Mallard with a 71-60 victory over the Wolverines on Tuesday.

The task wasn’t easy as WB-M led 23-15 after one quarter and held that eight-point advantage, 43-35, at halftime.

But the Titans stepped up the defense in the second half and took a 54-53 lead to start the final frame and then out-scored the visitors 17-7.

“We played better defense and moved the ball much better the second half to outscore them 36-17,” said GT/RA coach Randy Hough. “I thought our bench contributed heavily in the first half to keep us in the ballgame.”

Andy Geelan led the Titans with 19 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. Noah Stukey poured in 12 points while Lane Reiman had 11. Taylor Enderson contributed nine points, Jared Sikora had eight, Mason McGrauth had six, Connor Sturgill had four and Cole Hagedorn had two. Sturgill also had 11 rebounds. He, McGrauth and Reiman each had three assists.

LeMars too much for SL

LEMARS – Spirit Lake met its match in a tough LeMars squad.

Although the Indians trailed by just seven, 38-31, at one point in the game, the Bulldogs upped the pressure to win 62-45.

Alec Henrickson led the Indians with 15 points while Trevor Smith chipped in 11.

Tyler Borchers led LeMars with 25 points while Jake Irwin poured in 20 points.

Spirit Lake (8-3 overall, 4-3 in the Lakes Conference) is home against Okoboji today and the Indians then host Storm Lake on Tuesday.

Girls Basketball

Midgets fall to Jackson, 60-34

JACKSON, Minn. – Estherville Lincoln Central again stayed close to an opponent, but couldn’t come up with the offense to pick up a win in crossing the board to Jackson on Monday.

The JCC Huskies turned a 31-24 half-time lead into a 60-34 victory.

Caitlyn Clayton led the Midgets with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Megan Jensen contributed eight points and six rebounds. Carson Gjerde also had eight points while Colleen Humble had four, Molly Diekmann had two and Hallie Jensen had one.

GTRA sweeps WBM

RUTHVEN – Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire defeated rival West Bend-Mallard for the second time this season on Tuesday. The Titans came up with a 51-43 victory over the Wolverines to improve to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the Cornbelt Conference.

“After a rough start both offensively and defensively the girls picked it up in the fourth quarter to come away with the win,” said GTRA coach Todd Hough.

Lauren Flaharty led GTRA with 15 points, six rebounds and six steals. Grace Skattebo poured in 14 points along with five rebounds.

Morgan McGrauth had four steals and three assists and Emily Moran had two assists.
