Midgets meet match in state team dual

HUMBOLDT – Estherville Lincoln Central’s foray into the team dual postseason ended in the first round against Class 2A No. 7 Humboldt on Tuesday.

The two teams had met in the season opener with Humboldt winning 57-21.

With ELC missing two seniors from the lineup, the results were only slightly better for ELC in a 51-24 loss.

Starting the night at 160 pounds, ELC’s Kelly Clabaugh gave ELC a 6-0 lead with a pin over Gus Arnold.

But the Wildcats recorded three straight pins to take the lead for good.

ELC had four other wins on the night. Chase Bonner (220) won 40 over Cordes Olthoff. Oscar Ramirez 9132) pinned Jaden Kampen in 24 seconds. Cole Budach (145) defeated Malcolm Boyd 5-0. Blake Gjerde (152) received the only forfeit of the night.

In other matches, Andre Araguz (170) lost in 1:56 to Nikko Wheeler; Jake Bortvit (195) lost by fall in 4:52 to Adam McKesson and Austin Egeland (195) lost in 55 seconds to Reed Dreyer; Amed Castro (285) lost in 49 seconds to Dylan Hendricks; Zackary Snyder (106) lost in 1:56 to Levi Sawyer; Juan Castro (113) lost 8-2 to Austin Meier; Derek Gebel (120) lost in 1:38 to Zane Russel; Myles McDonald (126) lost in 46 seconds to Austen Gargano; Brenden Duer (138) lost in 2:25 to Jake Miller.
