Titans get past Wolves, top-ranked Mustangs next
LAKE PARK – The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire girls took advantage of their opportunity on Tuesday to edge past Harris-Lake Park, 48-46, in a Class 1A second-round game.
The Wolves’ lost their leading scorer, Noreen Morrow, to an injury during play in the first half. Morrow averages nearly 19 points per game and is the team’s top rebounder. She had just three points when she went down with an injury.
H-LP had won two regular season meetings between the two teams, most recently a 59-39 victory in the final game of the regular season.
The Titans’ (11-9) victory propels into the next round against top-ranked Newell-Fonda (20-2) on Friday.
The Wolves led 19-14 after the first quarter and held the five-point advantage, 29-24 at the break. GT/RA began making its run in the third quarter, trailing 36-34 to start the final frame.
“The girls played with a lot of energy tonight and did a great job,” said GT/RA coach Todd Hough. “We took care of the basketball pretty well again tonight and down the stretch we had some girls step up and make some plays when we needed them.”
Senior Marly Bakken led the Titans with 14 points including 3-of-8 from 3-point range. She also had four rebounds and three steals. Grace Skattebo finished with 11 points, five rebounds and three steels, Alex Oleson also had 11 points.
Katie Olesen finished with five points while Lauren Flaharty had four, Morgan McGrauth had two and Brooke Hoffman had one. McGrauth also had six assists and four steals.
