Lakers put together four-game streak

The Iowa Lakes Softball Team picked up its first two Region XI victories by sweeping North Iowa Area 6-5 and 9-2 in a doubleheader on Wednesday.

In the first game, Iowa Lakes erupted for five runs in the first inning, which included a two-RBI double by Kylee Pospisal.

The visitors tied the game at 5-5 with a four-run third inning, which included a three-run home run by Emilie Stirling.

Iowa Lakes scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth when Kimberly Frank hit a one-out triple and came home on the following single by Sierra Gudvangen.

Frank finished 3-3 at the plate while Gundvangen was 2-4 with two RBIs. Pospisal was 2-3 with two RBIs and Kristi Larson was 1-4 with two RBI. Also Nyna Tendal was 2-4.

Frank earned the win on the mound. She gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.

Iowa Lakes had a big eight-run fourth inning in the second game.

The Lakers finished with 14 hits led by Gudvangen, who went 3-4 with an RBI. Kristi Larson, Salina Gonzalez and Pospisal all went 2-4 while Jordyn Derflinger was 2-3.

Frank again was the winning pitcher as she gave up two earned runs on five hits with one strikeout and one walk.

The Lakers’ next scheduled home stand is a doublehader against Iowa Central on Wednesday.

Lakers hit well against NW JV

The Iowa Lakes softball team pounded out 27 hits in sweeping a doubleheader, 14-1 and 15-3, against the Northwestern Junior Varsity on Tuesday.

The wins improve the Lakers to 9-13 on the season.

“We played well today,” said Iowa Lakes coach Jess Van Loy. “There are still some little things we need to get better at, but all in all two wins is exactly what we needed to get back on track and gain a little confidence.”

In the first game Iowa Lakes sent 13 players to the plate in the third inning as they scored eight runs.

That inning included a two-run home run by Kristen King and a grand slam by Kristi Larson, her second of the game as finished 2-3 with eight RBIS. King also had a sacrifice fly in the inning as she finished 2-2 with three RBIs.

Nyna Tendal also went 2-3 with an RBI while Kimberly Frank was 3-3.

Frank earned the win on the mound as she gave up one run on four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in five innings of work.

In the second game, Iowa Lakes scored 10 runs in the second inning while cruising to victory.

This time Jess Abrahamson had the grand slam home run as she went 3-3 with five RBIs. Larson finished with another home run as well and was 1-2 with three RBIs. King finished 2-2 with a double and an RBI. Kylee Pospisal finished 1-2 with two RBIs. Also Sierra Godvangen was 3-3.

Jordyn Derflinger earned the win on the mound. In five innings, she gave up three runs (one earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
