ARMSTRONG – Estherville Lincoln Central and North Union opened the season in a non-conference match in Armstrong on Thursday.

The Midgets’ Tia Bernholtz took medalist honors with a 57, but the Warriors came out with the win-238-251.

NU’s Ashley Laverty finished as runner-up medalist with a 57.

Other scores for ELC were a 62 by Megan Brunskill, a 66 by Lauren Moeller and a 67 by Olivia Truog. Non-counting scores were 74s by Jordan Organ, Paige Stoliker and Suzy Anderson while Gracie Schnell shot a 77.

“The girls did a nice job for the first meet of the year,” said ELC coach Kevin Richardson. “Tia was medalist picking up from where she left off last year. Megan had a great round with a 62; this is the first full nine holes and is great score for a first year player. The Armstrong course is a longer course for girls with four par five holes. The par fives are usually the tougher holes for the girls and they did a nice job on them.”

For North Union, Tayler Mathine shot a 58, Katie Ortman shot a 61 and there was a choice of 62s from Maddie Schlitz and Linsey Irmiter for the final counting score. Other scores were a 68 by Brianna Schroeder, a 72 by Courtney Foertch and an 82 by Rebekah Bauer.

The ELC?girls are at Algona on Monday and home on Tuesday.
