Lakers battle at Iowa Central Invitational
ANKENY – The Iowa Lakes Women’s and Men’s Teams were in action for the season opener at the Iowa Central Invite held at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny last weekend.
The Laker women that competed in the two-day event were Tressa DeBoer and Cassie Galm. DeBoer shot a first day total of 100. She followed up with a 96 on the second round. Galm shot a 99 on day one and fired a 105 on day two.
On the men’s side ,the Lakers didn’t start as well as they hoped struggling on day one shooting a 334. They were led by Austin Sweeney with an 80, Harley Snelson shot an 81, Joe Dakken shot an 86 while Jordan Sogard shot an 87. Non-counting score was Nathan Kyle with a 91. Blake Orton shot an 84 playing as an individual. On day two the Lakers played a lot better shooting 27 strokes better in shooting a 307. Sogard led the way shooting a 1-under 70. Sweeney shot a 76, while Orton fired a 79. Dakken shot an 82 to round up the scoring. Non counting score was Kyle’s 87. Harley Snelson had to withdraw from the tournament due to illness.
“With only a few days being able to be outside the first day was an adjustment round,” said Iowa Lakes coach Andy Soper. “On the second day we played more to our potential and proud of the way the players fought out there.”
The Lakers traveled to Lake Panorama to play in the AIB Spring Invite on Friday and today.
