Midgets compete at E’Hawk event
EMMETSBURG – The Estherville Lincoln Central girls had some good moments at the Early Bird Emmetsburg Relays on Tuesday.
“Overall it was a good night,” said ELC coach Tina Burton. “We were able to get some competition; we were able to see what the athletes were capable of doing and what we need to work on. The big things right now is fighting through the finish line. Many of them are just trying to get through the run, instead of battling another competitor.”
Alicia Jorgenson had a strong showing as she won both the 200 and 400-meter dashes with times of 28.15 seconds and l:03.15, respectively
“Alicia is obviously strong,” said Burton. “I’m very proud of where she is at this early in the season. She has a goal and a mission and is a great competitor on the track. She sees someone in front of her and she goes after them. I can’t wait for the bigger meets where she will have tougher competition to see what she can do.”
Burton said the results show that Carson Gjerde and Briseide Segura along with Jorgenson appear to be the team’s strongest sprinters right now.
“I expect to see them helping out relays and battling for individual top spots,” the coach said.
ELC also got a top finish from Hallie Jensen in the high jump with her leap of 4 feet, 8 inches.
“Hallie is just learning the high jump and did very well tonight,” said Burton. “I’m anxious to see what she does for the rest of the season for sure.”
