Midgets struggle against Braves
CHEROKEE – Estherville Lincoln Central’s young tennis team struggled through its first night of play at Cherokee on Tuesday.
The Midgets fell 9-0 to the Braves with the best match a 10-7 loss at the NO. 2 doubles with Kaylee Nissen and Taylor Nissen.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do,” said ELC coach Larry Kirchner. “Our skill level isn’t quite there. We need to move our shots around more and take advantage of our skill set.
In singles play, Maddy Burns lost 10-3 to Rachel Boyle; Emily Jorgenson lost 10-4 to Lauren Yearous, Kaylee Nissen lost 10-3 to Angela Lizzey; Taylor Nissen lost 10-5 to Jordyn Dingham; Emily Origer lost 10-3 to Grace Teusink and Rachael Mueller lost 10-2 to Dusty Wright.
In doubles play, Burns and Jorgenson lost 10-4 to Boyle and Yearous; the Nissens lost 10-7 to Dingham and Teusink and Origer and Mueller lost 10-0 to Lizzey and Wright.
In junior varsity play, ELC lost 8-1 with the doubles team of Alissa Olson and Scarlet Rose winning 8-5. In singles play, Liz Herrick lost 8-2; Doris Van der Laan lost 8-2; Olson lost 8-6, Rose lost 8-1, Allison Martyr lost 8-2 and Sam Tredway lost 8-1. In doubles, Herrick and Van der Laan lost 8-0 and Martyr and Tredway lost 8-2.
