Tritons sweep Lakers
Iowa Central had too much offense as the Iowa Lakes softball team dropped a doubleheader to the Tritons on Wednesday.
Iowa Central scored seven runs in the second inning of the first game and held on for an 8-4 victory. The Tritons again had a big second inning-11 runs-in game two on the way to an 18-0, five-inning rout.
The Lakers were out-hit 13-7 in the first game. Kimberly Frank was 2-3 with an RBI and Kristi Larson was 1-3 with two RBIs.
Frank also took the loss giving up seven earned runs in two innings. Nyna Tendal closed out the final five innings, giving up one unearned run on six hits with two walks and no strikeouts.
In game two, the Tritons outhit the Lakers 18-3 including a grand slam home run by NiCole Dobernecker.
The Lakers’ hits came from Tendal, Jess Abrahamson and Jamie Bascom.
Jordyn Derflinger took the loss as she gave up nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts. Frank pitched two innings and gave up nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Tendal pitched two innings and gave up two hits.
Iowa Lakes (12-16 overall) is home Tuesday against the Morningside Junior Varsity.
