93rd Running of the Estherville Relays
A one-two finish in the 3200 by Estherville Lincoln Central proved to be a very good start for the Midgets at he 93rd Running of the Estherville Relays on Thursday.
The event featured three meet records-two by Algona and one by Spirit Lake Park – as well as a school record in the 400-meter low hurdles by junior Justin Heinrichs.

“I’m real happy with the way we ran and I thought we had an outstanding meet,” said ELC coach Dick Barrett, who was himself honored at the start of the Relays with a plaque, honoring him for his 45 years of coaching the sport. “We had a lot of career best times and distances.”
In the 3200-meter run, sophomores Lee Christensen and Nic Peters both ran career-best times in the event to take the top two spots. Christensen finished in 10 minutes, 30.98 seconds while Peters clocked in at 10:42.54.

The SLP 4×800-meter relay team of Kyle Anderson, Paul Woizeschke, Josh Waite and Tanner Goetsch also set a meet record with their time of 8:13.04.
“I’m really pleased with all our relays-varsity and JV,” said Barrett. “Id’ also like to thank the workers for an outstanding job. The starter even made a special effort to congratulate us on how well we run a meet.
“I’d especially like to thank (athletic director) Brad Leonard, (secretary) Jolene Lutz and Jenny Nitchals for their efforts in helping put this meet together,” the coach said. “The 93rd Running of the Estherville Relays turned out to be a great high school track meet.”
