ELC comes up short again SL/O
Estherville Lincoln Central netters had their chances Thursday, but came up short in a few tiebreakers as they fell 7-2 to Spirit Lake-Okoboji.
“We played much better than our first meet, but suffered some tough losses in tie breaks,” said ELC coach Tony Klein. “For the most part, we hit the ball the way we’re capable of, which is not something we did in the first meet.”
ELC’s wins came at the top singles and the top doubles as Levi Jensen beat Ryle Smith 10-8 and Jensen and Thomas Bortvit defeated Smith and Michael O’Brien in doubles, 10-8.
ELC had some close matches at the top part of the singles as Bortvit lost 11-10 (7-3) to O’Brien and John Reisner lost 11-10 (7-4) to Hunter Andreason.
In other singles, Drew Condon lost 10-4 to Will Fuelberth, Kyle Marks lost 10-1 to Jason Thorn and Alex Murillo lost 10-1 to Tully Reed.
In doubles, Reisner and Condon lost 10-5 to Andreason and Thorn while Marks and Jace Hobmeier lost 10-1 to Fuelbuerth and Dan Chapman.
In junior varsity play, ELC lost all six matches. In singles, Jose Rodriguez lost 8-4, Toby Jensen lost 8-1, Hunter Kompelien lost 8-0 and Matthew Mustard lost 8-0. In doubles, Hobmeier and Toby Jensen lost 8-3 and Kompelien and Mustard lost 8-0.
ELC hosts Storm Lake on Tuesday.
