Midgets run at Spirit Lake
SPIRIT LAKE – Running their second meet in as many days, the focus for the Estherville Lincoln Central Boys Track Team was a little different as the Midgets took part in the Iowa Great Lakes Meet hosted by Spirit Lake on Tuesday.
“We went in with the goal of running three relays to the best of our ability,” said ELC coach Dick Barrett. “We did that in two-the 4×800 and the medley. Currently both are in the top10 in the state in Class 2A. We came up a little short in the 4×400.”
ELC’s 4×800-meter team of Lee Christensen, Rod Fuller, Cody Davis and Joe Heinrichs finished first in 8 minutes, 28.20 seconds. The medley relay team of Dan Christensen, Kyle DeVary, Justin Heinrichs and Joe Heinrichs finished second in 3:43.65.
Meanwhile Barrett said Lee Christensen and Nic Peters both ran good times in the distance races with Christensen running a career best time of 4:46.15 in the 1600.
“I’m happy with our progress,” the coach said. “We have several events in the top 24 in Class 2A. I hope we continue to improve.”
