Midgets still unable to win close matches

The Estherville Lincoln Central boys again had some close matches that they couldn’t quite come out on top as the Midgets hosted Storm Lake on Tuesday, losing 8-1 to the Tornadoes.

The Midgets’ one win came from Levi Jensen has he defeated Caleb Hinners at the No. 2 singles to improve to 2-1 on the seconds.

At the No. 4 singles, John Reisner came up short 10-8 to Brett DeWorff.

At the No. 1 doubles, Jensen and Thomas Bortvit took on Hinners and Ross DeWerff and fell 11-10 with a 7-2 score in the tiebreaker.

In other singles matches, Bortvit lost 10-1 to Ross DeWerff, Tim Soper lost 10-4 to Jake Luedtke, Drew Condon lost 10-5 to Tanner Hoops and Kyle Marks lost 10-0 to Danny Souksay.

In doubles, Soper and Reisner lost 10-7 to Luedtke and Brett DeWerff and Condon and Marks lost 10-5 to Hoops and Souksay.

In junior varsity play, Jose Saavedra lost 6-0, Koby Schubert lost 6-3, Eli Gonzales lost 6-0, Toby Jensen lost 6-0, Hunter Kompelien lost 6-1 and Matthew Mustard lost 6-0.

In doubles, Schubert and Gonzales lost 8-1, Jensen and Kompelien lost 8-1 and Saavedra and Mustard lost 8-1.

In exhibition play, Jace Hobmeier lost 6-3.
