SPENCER – Estherville Lincoln Central showed some improvement, but was no match for Spencer at a meet hosted by the Tigers on Friday.

Spencer shot a 156 on their course at the Spencer Golf and Country Club while ELC came in with a 169. Cherokee finished with an 186.

The Tigers swept mealist honors with both Adam Labernik and Blake Bender carding a 37.

“I was happy to be in the 160s,” said ELC coach Dave Van Roekel. “We’re seeing a bit of improvement and now we need to get in the low 160s.”

Jack Brashear led ELC with a 41 while Chris Seylar and Hunter King each shot a 42 and Alec Wycoff had a 44.

“As the No. 5 golfer, Hunter’s 42 was a good round,” said Van Roekel.

Non-counting scores were a 47 by Corey Reeves and a 49 by Clay Tredway.

In junior varsity play, Spencer shot nearly as well with a 171 while Cherokee had a 205 and ELC a 218.

Jake Bortvit led ELC with a 46, Chase Erickson had a 49, Reese Vedder had 59 and Zach Edwards shot a 64. Non-counting score was a 69 by Derek Gebel.

ELC is at the Iowa Great Lakes Tournament today at Brooks Golf Course in Okoboji. The Midgets are scheduled for a home meet on Tuesday.
