SL-O cruises past Le Mars

LeMars was one of the teams expected to give Spirit Lake/Okoboji a little challenge this season, but the Bulldogs had little success in a 9-0 loss.

The closest match of the night came at the No. 1 doubles with SL-O’s Olivia Rohlk and Natalie Delaney winning 10-6 over Emily Ahlers and Brittney Thompson.

In singles play, Rohlk won 10-3 over Ahlers; Delaney won 10-5 over Thompson; Ryan Petivich won 10-5 over Ellen Meis; Hanna Schoning won 10-3 over Lexa Skov; Anna Vos won 10-0 over Mackenzie Popken and Rebecca Owens won 10-2 over Amy Isebrand.

In doubles, Petievich and Schoning won 10-4 over Meis and Skov and Vos and Hailey Johnson won 10-2 over Isebrand and Martin.

Bulldogs too much for SL-O

The Spirit Lake/Okoboji boys tennis team struggled against LeMars, losing 9-0 on Tuesday.

“The match against LeMars felt a lot like the match we played against Spencer,” said SL/O coach Dan Taylor. “We had a number of matches that were even through the first two-thirds of the set, and then we just couldn’t put it together at the end.”

Skopec takes medalist honors

Spirit Lake’s Zach Skopec may have edged Emmetsburg’s Luke Jackson for medalist honors, but the E’Hawks came away with the team victory, shooting a 152 to the Indians’ 157. Storm Lake finished with a 167 in the Lakes Conference double dual on Tuesday.

Skopec and Jackson each shot a 36, but Skopec won the one-hole playoff.

Also for Spirit Lake, Trevor Caldwell shot a 38, Corey Potter shot a 39 and Grant Schuchert shot a 44.

SLPO soccer results

Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji girls exploded for 10 goals Monday nigh in defeating Storm Lake 10-1 in Lake Park.

Katy Brevik and Kayla Herrig each had four goals and two assists. Junior Josie Hoien and sophomore Morgan Wolf had one goal apiece.

Meanwhile, the Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji boys also notched a win Monday night, beating Storm Lake 3-2.

SLP-O then took on Sioux City West, losing 8-0 on Tuesday.
