Lakers take three games from SWCC

CRESTON – The Iowa Lakes Baseball Team took three of four from Southwestern Community College last Friday and Saturday, April 25-26, to improve to 19-17 overall and 7-13 in conference play.

On Friday, the Lakers split with the Spartans, taking the first game 12-4 and losing the second 9-8.

In the victory, Iowa Lakes pounded out 16 hits with Hecmart Nieves going 4-5 with an RBI while Tanner Johnson was 3-4 with four RBIs. Luis Sterling was 2-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Manny Deleon was 1-4 with a solo home run. Blake Rogers, Sean Alp and Pat Gough each went 2-4.

Kyle Thomas pitched all seven innings giving up four unearned runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.

In the second game, eight Laker errors proved disastrous in the one-run loss. Six of the Southwestern runs were earned.

Ryan Mose pitched three innings giving up eight runs on six hits with one strikeout and five walks. Austin Orvis took the loss as he pitched three innings and gave up one run on three hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

Iowa Lakes had 11 hits led by Alp, who went 3-4. Nieves and Deleon each went 2-4 with two RBIs.

On Saturday, the Lakers won 13-3 in six innings and 8-5.

In the first win, Jesus Brito went six innings giving up three unearned runs on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

Iowa Lakes finished with 12 hits led by Nieves who went 3-5. Tanner Johnson and Sterling each had two hits and two RBIs. Alp had one hit and two RBIs.

In the second game, Alex Cristobal improved to 4-0 on the season. He pitched four innings and gave up four runs (two earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Kris Johnson pitched two innings and Juan Perez pitched one inning giving up one run on three hits with three strikeouts.

The Lakers again had 12 hits with Rogers going 3-4 with three RBIs. Perez was 3-3 while Johnson was 2-4 with two RBIs and Alp was 2-4.
