ELC places fifth at Lakes
LEMARS – Estherville Lincoln Central did well to finish fifth in the 2014 Lakes Conference Girls Tennis Tournament last Saturday.
The Midgets’ best finish were a fourth-place finish by Kaylee Nissen and Taylor Nissen in the No. 2 doubles and a fourth-place finish by Emily Jorgenson in the No. 2 singles bracket.
Maddy Burns finished fifth in the No. 1 singles bracket while Rachael Mueller and Emily Origer finished sixth in the No. 2 doubles bracket.
“I thought our No. 2 doubles played well,” said ELC coach Larry Kirchner. “But we didn’t pull out the matches we needed to.
“I am pleased with how we have developed this year,” he continued.
Spirit Lake-Okoboji won their 15th straight Lakes Conference championship with 17 match wins followed by LeMars with 16, Spencer with 11, Cherokee with seven, ELC with five and Storm Lake with four.
ELC falls to SL-O
Estherville Lincoln Central played a little better, but the Midgets were still no match for Lakes Conference champions Spirit Lake-Okoboji on Monday.
SL-O swept ELC 9-0. In singles play, Maddy Burns lost 10-5 to Olivia Rohlk; Emily Jorgenson lost 10-2 to Natalie Delaney; Kaylee Nissen lost 10-1 to Ryan Petievich; Taylor Nissen lost 10-2 to Hannah Schoning; Emily Origer lost 10-1 to Anna Vos and Rachael Mueller lost 10-0 to Rebecca Owens.
In doubles, Burns and Jorgenson los 10-2 to Rohlk and Delaney; Kaylee Nissen and Taylor Nissen lost 10-0 to Petievich and Schoning and Origer and Mueller lost 10-1 to Hailey Johnson and Mallory Luers.
