SLP girls finish solidly in second

SPIRIT LAKE – While Spencer was just too strong for the Lakes Conference field, the Spirit Lake Park calmly slipped into second place at the conference meet in Spirit Lake on Thursday.

The Tigers won with 159 points while the Indians finished with 114, solidly ahead of third-place Western Christian’s 97 points.

Jenna McCoy earned a conference championship in the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 15.99 seconds. The distance medley team of Taryn Ruden, Miranda Brueggeman, Emma Dau and Dondi Schmidt also won in 4:27.33.

Earning all-conference for second place were Schmidt in the 1500-meter run and Brueggeman in the 400-meter hurdles.

400-meter hurdles: 2, Brueggeman 1:11.00; 4, McCoy 1:12.53
