LAURENS – Graettinger-Terill/Ruthven-Ayrshire will send two representatives to the 2014 Class 1A State Track Meet next week.

The Titans’ Marcus Girres qualified in the 200-meter dash in 23.54 seconds while teammate Jake Wegner qualified in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 10 inches.

“We ran at the state qualifying meet and had another decent meet,” said GT/RA coach David Peterson. “We qualified two individuals for state and lowered five school records. We missed qualifying another event by .04 seconds. Our boys’ disappointment after running very solid in these terrible running conditions is a great indicator of how hard they have worked and how far they have come since March.”

Wegner’s leap won the high jump and set the school record at Laurens while Girres’ time in the 200 placed in third.

Meanwhile, Michael Girres placed third in the 100-meter dash in 11.81 seconds.

Kyle Dalen set a school record in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 4 inches.

Marcus Girres placed fifth in the 100-meter dash in 11.90 seconds and fifth in the 800-meter dash in 2:14.39. Also, Michael Girres, Kyle Dalen, Ethan Eldridge and Marcus Girres set a school record in the 4×200-meter relay with their fifth-place finish in 1:38.25.

Eric Sundall took sixth in the 3200-meter run in 12:04.97.

Tyler Hoffman placed eighth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 19.13 seconds and in the 400-meter low hurdles in 1:05.76. Both are school records.
