ELC golfers end season

STORM LAKE – Estherville Lincoln Central’s golf season came to an abrupt end Friday as the Midgets finished sixth in Class 2A district competition.

Advancing to state were East Sac County with a 331 and Fort Dodge St. Edmond with a 332.

Emmetsburg finished third with a 338 followed by Hinton with 348, Sioux Center with 352 and ELC with 356.

“Our trouble spot (big numbers), pretty much took its toll on us today,” said ELC coach Dave Van Roekel. “The kids played some really good golf today, but the bad holes seemed to really turn into big numbers on us. Even with those numbers derailing our chances, the kids never gave up and the boys played their rounds as gentlemen in the game of golf should. It’s certainly sad to see this season come to a close, but that too is a life lesson.”

Jack Brashear led ELC with an 87 while Chris Seylar shot an 88, Corey Reeves a 90 and Clay Tredway a 91. Non-counting scores were a 94 by Hunter King and a 102 from Alec Wycoff.

“I couldn’t even begin to say how much these seniors will be missed,” Van Roekel said. “This senior class has led this golf program to where a foundation is now in place for those that will follow. I would really like to thank everyone who has supported the ELC Boys Golf program, it means a lot to both the players and myself!”
