Season ends for ELC netters

LEMARS – The season ended for the Estherville Lincoln Central Girls Tennis Team as they played at the Class 1A Regional Singles and Doubles Tournament in LeMars on Thursday.

In doubles play, Maddy Burns and Emily Jorgenson earned the No. 4 seed, but struggled. The duo ended up losing 6-2, 6-2 to Amber Harvik and Jacque Ingram of Denison-Schleswig.

At the other doubles, Taylor Nissen and Kaylee Nissen lost 6-2, 6-2 to Spencer’s Jenna Nissen and Kelly Staples.

ELC’s singles matched up against Spirit Lake-Okoboji. Rachael Mueller lost 6-0, 6-0 to Hailey Johnson and Emily Origer lost 6-0, 6-0 to Anna Vos.

“We were a young team this year,” said ELC coach Larry Kirchner. “Maddy had the most experience by far.”

Burns and Mueller are the two seniors lost to the Midgets’ final starting lineup this season.

“We’ll need the returning girls to spend a lot of time on the court this summer,” said Kirchner.

Midgets wrap up regular season

SPENCER – The Estherville Lincoln Central Girls Tennis Team wrapped up the regular season with a final dual meet against Spencer. The Tigers were too much for the Midgets as they won 9-0.

“We had a lot of matches where we had game point and we couldn’t finish,” said ELC coach Larry Kirchner.

In singles play, Maddy Burns lost 10-3 to Piper Swanson; Emily Jorgenson lost 10-4 to Kate Wilkerson; Kaylee Nissen lost 10-2 to Tiffany Lovan; Taylor Nissen lost 10-0 to Jenna Nissen; Emily Origer lost 10-0 to Kelsey Staples and Rachael Mueller lost 10-1 to Kayla Shanks.

In doubles, Burns and Jorgenson lost 10-1 to Swanson and Wilkerson; Kaylee Nissen and Taylor Nissen lost 10-4 to Jenna Nissen and Staples; and Mueller and Scarlett Rose lost 10-0 to Lovan and Shanks.

In junior varsity play, Alyson Martyr won a No. 5 singles match 8-2 while the doubles team of Liz Herrick and Martyr won 8-3 and Doris Van der Laan and Alyssa Olson won 8-6.

In other singles, Van der Laan lost 8-0, Scarlett Rose lost 8-1; Herrick lost 8-0, Olson lost 8-0 and Sam Tredway lost 8-5.
