DES MOINES – The Estherville Lincoln Central state qualifiers picked up a couple medals and set a pair of school records in the second day of the 2014 State Track and Field Meet on Friday.

After resetting the school record in the 400-meter low hurdles twice during the season, junior Justin Heinrichs did it again with his eighth-place medal time of 55.57 seconds. His previous best was 55.86 seconds.

ELC coach Dick Barrett also substituted Justin Heinrichs into the medley relay team for the 400-meter leg. Along with Dan Christensen, Kyle DeVary and anchor Joe Heinrichs, the Midgets ran that event in 3:36.40 to place seventh. Their time also set a school record.

“It was an outstanding effort by all the guys,” said ELC coach Dick Barrett.

The previous medley record of 3:38.3 was held by Jordan Eggers, Justin Blinkmann, Scott Schmidt and Matt Juhl.

ELC’s final event of the day on Friday was the 4×400-meter relay prelims.

The quartet of Davis, Justin Heinrichs, DeVary and Joe Heinrichs finished in 3:33.05.

ELC’s final event of the 2014 State Track Meet features Joe Heinrichs in the 1600-meter run today at 1:45 p.m.
