DES MOINES – With 11 qualifying events, the Spirit Lake Park Boys Track Team was bound to pick up a few state medals at the Class 3A 2014 State Track and Field Meet.

Through the first two days, the team’s best finish was a repeat of third place of a year ago in the 4×800-meter relay.

On Thursday, the quartet of Paul Woizeschke, Tanner Goetsch, Kyle Anderson and Josh Waite finished the event in 8 minutes, 4.75 seconds to earn their medal.

The Indians ended Friday strong with an eighth-place finish in the 4×400-meter prelims. The quartet of Blake Enderson, Caleb Jennings, Josh Waite and Pat Woizeschke clocked in at 3:26.46 to qualify for today’s finals.

In other events, the Indians came up a bit short of earning a medal.

In the discus, Jacob Jenness finished 10th with a throw of 148 feet, 3 inches-a good throw, but 6 inches away from earning eighth place. Teammate Ryan Kelley finished 18th in the event with a toss of 135 feet, 8 inches. Jenness placed 21st in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 8 inches.

In a tightly-contested 4×200-meter relay, SLP finished 14th in 1:32.64. That quartet consisted of Caleb Jennings, Zach Renken, Enderson and Pat Woizeschke. They finished less one second away from eighth place.

The medley relay team of Jennings, Renken, Enderson and Anderson finished 21st in 3:43.15.

In the 400-meter low hurdles, Pat Woizeschke finished 22nd in 58.13 seconds.

The Indians wrap up the track meet with Paul Woizeschke and Tanner Goetsch running the 800-meter run and Goetsch in the 1600-meter run. The 4×400-meter relay team will run in the finals as the last event of the day.
