Indians blow past Braves

SPIRIT?LAKE?-?A nine-run second inning made it a short night for Spirit Lake as the Indians defeated Cherokee 13-1 in three innings for the teams’ first Lakes Conference game of the season.

Spirit Lake had hits up and down the lineup with seven players contributing to the team’s 12 hits.

Bailee Newman earned the win as she gave up one earned run on one hit with five strikeouts and no walks.

At the plate, Newman went 2-2 with a double, a home run and three RBIs to help her cause. Maddie Richter and Kailee Jenness each went 2-2 with two RBIs while Kelsey Delperdang was 2-3 with two RBIs and Mackenzie Thate was 2-3. Paige Petersen and Olivia Peschon each went 1-2 with Petersen hitting a triple and driving in a run.

suffers first loss

SPIRIT LAKE – The Spirit Lake softball team suffered its first loss, 6-2 to Sioux Center on Friday, May 30. However, the Indians are the first team to score against the Warriors who shut out their first three opponents.

Bailee Newman took the loss on the mound as she gave up six runs (four earned) on 10 hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

The Indians finished with seven hits with Newman, Mackenzie Thate and Maddie Richter each going 2-4 while Whitlee Reitz went 1-4. Ricther and Paige Petersen each had an RBI.
