ELC rallies past Spencer
After some early mistakes, Estherville Lincoln Central regrouped and fought back to defeat Spencer 7-6 on Monday.
The Midgets fell behind 3-0 with three errors in the second inning, tying the game at 3-3 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. But Spencer retook the lead with a run in the seventh.
ELC wasn’t prepared to call it a night. Colleen Humble led off the bottom of the seventh with a single. With one out, an error in right field on a hit by Megan Jensen allowed Humble to score.
After a scoreless eighth inning, Spencer appeared to take control with two runs in the top of the ninth.
ELC would have none of it. Humble again led off the inning with a single. With one out, Jensen’s two-run home run tied the game.
With two outs, Caitlyn Clayton drew a walk with an error allowing her to advance. Pitcher Liz Brashear helped her cause with a walk-off single.
Brashear picked up the win as she gave up six hits with six strikeouts and no walks.
At the plate, Jensen and Brashear each went 3-5 while Humble was 2-4. Rachel Bates, Schacherer and Alyssa Friesner each were 1-4 and Carson Gjerde was 1-5.
Midgets win two in Sioux City
SIOUX CITY – Estherville Lincoln Central improved to 9-4 with wins over Sioux City East and Sioux City North on Tuesday.
ELC jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first half of the inning against Sioux City East and held on for the 8-4 victory.
Carson Gjerde picked up the win on the mound as she gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
ELC pounded out 11 hits led by Caitlyn Clayton, who went 3-4 with a double and three RBIs. Sarah Schacherer was 2-4 with three RBIS and Liz Brashear also was 2-4.
Megan Jensen was 1-2 with an RBI, Colleen Humble was 1-2, Rachel Bates was 1-3 with an RBI and Alyssa Friesner was 1-4.
ELC had an eight-run second inning and six-run fifth inning in defeating Sioux City North 15-2 in five innings. The Midgets only had nine hits, but drew 13 walks in the game.
Scahcacherer finished 2-3 with a double and four RBIs while Clayton was 2-4. Gjerde and Bates each went 1-2 with a double and two RBIs. Jensen was 1-3 with an RBI while Friesner was 1-4 with an RBI and Brashear was 1-5 with an RBI. Humble and Rylee Miller each had an RBI.
Brashear earned the win as she gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits with seven strikeouts and four walks.
