Indians split a pair of games

EMMETSBURG – The Spirit Lake Softball Team split a pair of games this past week, defeating Sibley-Ocheyedan 3-2 and falling to Emmetsburg 6-5.

Taking on the Generals on Tuesday, the Indians took a 2-1 lead heading into the seventh inning, scored an insurance run and then limited Sibley-Ocheyedan to just one run in the bottom of the inning to preserve the win.

Bailee Newman pitched a complete game for the Indians, striking out 11 batters, walking three and giving up two earned runs and five hits.

Spirit Lake also had just five hits with Erin Dau going 1-1 with a double, Maddie Richter was 1-2 and Mackenzie Thate, Whitlee Reitz and Kayla Herrig each went 1-3. Reitz and Herrig each had an RBI.

On Wednesday, Emmetsburg rallied from a 5-1 deficit with four runs in the top of the seventh. The E’Hawks went on to score the go-ahead run in the eighth inning.

Newman pitched 7 2/3 innings and gave up six runs (four earned) on 10 hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

The Indians finished with 13 hits with Caitlyn Roberts and Thate each going 3-4. Thate had two RBIs and Roberts had one. Richter and Kelsey Delperdang each finished 2-4 while Newman, Reitz and Herrig each had a hit.
