Midgets avenge loss to Braves
The Estherville Lincoln Central Softball Team avenged an early season loss to Cherokee with a 10-0, five-inning victory on Wednesday.
The Braves won the first outing 3-1.
This time the Midgets jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, which included a single by Carson Gjerde, an RBI double by Caitlyn Clayton and singles by Liz Brashear and Rachel Bates.
ELC added a run in the third and a run in the fourth to lead 7-0. IN the fifth inning, Alyssa Friesner drew a walk, Morgan White singled and Rylee Miller reached on an error to load the bases. A single by Jensen scored one run. After Gjerde lined out to second base, Clayton hit a pop up between the Cherokee catcher and pitcher. The two players interfered with each other on the catch. As the ball squirted loose, both Miller and Jensen scored to end the game.
Gjerde finished 2-3 while Jensen, Clayton, Liz Brashear, Bates and White each had one hit.
Brashear picked up the win as she struck out seven, walked one and gave up just one hit. ELC had two errors on the night.
“It was a good win,” said ELC coach Megan Anderson, whose team had been off for four straight days due to inclement weather.
