ELC overcomes defensive miscues
Esthervillle Lincoln Central worked its way into staying in the Lakes Confernce race with an 8-4 victory over Storm Lake on Monday. ELC’s defense struggled at times as all four of the Tornado runs were unearned.
ELC went to work with two runs in the first. Egan Jensen led off with a double and scored on a single by Carson Gjerde, Caitlyn Clayton followed with another RBI single.
In the fourth inning, Alyssa Friesner drew a walk and Morgan White had a bunt single. With one out, Rylee Miller drew a walk to load the bases. Jensen hit into a fielder’s choice with Friesner scoring on the play.
ELC put up two more runs in the fifth inning. With one out, Liz Brashear drew a walk and Sarah Schacherer doubled to put runners at second and third. A single by Friesner scored courtesy runner Gabby Heckard. A two-out single by Colleen Humble scored Schacherer.
ELC scored two more runs in the sixth. Miller, Jensen and Gjerde all singled to load the bases. Clayton hit a sacrifice fly to left and Brashear hit a sacrifice fly to center to score the runs.
Jensen and Gjerde each were 2-4 to lead the Midgets.
