Krantz, Warriors edge]s past Panthers

BANCROFT – North Union junior Alex Krantz gave up just three hits to Central Springs as the Warriors’ won a pitcher’s duel 2-1 on Thursday.

Krantz pitched all seven innings, striking out three batters and walking three. Central Springs’ one run was unearned.

Meanwhile Central Springs’ Tennor Isaackson gave up eight hits to the Warriors without a strikeout, walk or hit batter.

North Union scored both its runs in the third inning. With one-out, Cody Runksmeier singled and went to second when Colin Runksmeier grounded out to third base. A double by Spencer Ricke scored the first run of the night with Ricke scoring on a single by Corey Vaske.

North Union gave up its lone run in the fifth inning.

Defensively, the Warriors fought off a bases-loaded situation in the sixth inning as Krantz gave up a leadoff walk followed by a North Union error. A pop up to second base and a strikeout later, Krantz hit a batter to load the bases. A groundout to third baseman Vaske ended the threat.

Central Springs went down in order in the seventh with three fly balls to the outfield.

At the plate for North Union, Vaske was 3-3 with an RBI while Ricke was 2-3 with an RBI and Parker Oleson was 2-2. Cody Runksmeier was 1-3.

North Union (9-10 overall) traveled to the Granville Tournament on Friday, which continues today. The Warriors host Harris-Lake Park on Monday.
