ELC volleyball rolls to victory at home tourney
The Estherville Lincoln Central Volleyball Team wrapped up homecoming week by winning its own tournament on Saturday.
The Midgets opened the day in pool play and defeated Clay Central-Everly 21-6, 21-8, Emmetsburg 21-14, 21-19 and Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire 21-15, 21-16.
With the top two teams in each pool moving forward, ELC opened with a 23-25, 25-14, 15-7 win over Sioux Central and then defeated Harris-Lake Park 25-21, 25-18 in the tournament championship match. With the five wins, ELC is now on a seven-game winning streak and improves to 12-9 overall.
“I feel like the girls are really coming together and playing well as a team,” said ELC co-coach Jean Jensen. “Also, Kendall Evans had a great day of serving.”
Evans finished the day 72-of-73 from the service line with 18 aces.
Leading the Midget attack, senior Rylee Miller finished with 22 kills on the day. And Molly Diekmann had 15, Vanessa Woelber had 11, Sydney Swanson had nine and Evans and Lindsey Jensen each had six.
Evans had 76 set assists on the day.
Also serving, Swanson was 38-of-40 with seven aces and Jensen was 37-of-41 with seven aces.
ELC is home this Thursday against North Union.
