Algona swimmers sweep double dual
PERRY – The Algona Girls Swim Team had two wins in the double dual
at Perry, beating Grinnell 57-37 and Perry 60-33.
“This was a very good team effort in the meet,” said Algona Coach Jim
Fisher. “There were swimmers doing some different strokes tonight and still had very good times. This showed that the effort and hard work in practice is paying of. This is the first time that the team has won both sides of a double dual.”
Algona improved to 3-5 in duals.
The Bulldogs had seven first places in 11 events.
Individually, Jessica Anderson won the 200 individual medley in 2:25.76 and the 100 freestyle in 1:00.23; Natalie Lausen won the 50 freestyle in 27.72 and Alexa Gilbert won the 100 breaststroke in 1:27.64.
The 200 medley relay team of Lausen, Fries, Garman and Bridget Finley placed first in 2:15.36. The 200 freestyle team of Fries, Finley, Laura Stowater and Anderson placed first in 1:56.72 and the 400 freestyle team of Stowater, Finley, Lausen, and Anderson won in 4:24.88.
Second place finishes included Kali Garman in the 100 butterfly in 1:23.49, Cheyanne Fries in the 100 freestyle in 1:03.82 and Lausen in the 100 backstroke in 1:14.38.
Algona will be at a double dual in Spencer against the Tigers and Storm Lake on Monday.
