Class 1A Regional Volleyball H-LP too much for GT/RA
LAKE PARK – Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire gave Harris-Lake Park a good battle early on, but the Wolves’ offense picked up the pace, especially over the last two games, to sweep the Titans in the first round of the Class 1A Regional Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday.
The loss signaled the end of coach Ashley Dreeszen’s first season as the Titans’ head coach finished with a 7-24 record, an improvement over the 0-33 season in 2015.
GT/RA’s team featured just one senior in Emma Feldhacker and three juniors.
In Tuesday’s regional matchup, the Titans battled back from an early deficit and tied the match on a block by Anna Sorensen at 20-20. However, the Wolves scored the next three points and ended the match on a block by Tessa Ihnen.
GT/RA started well in the second game as well, trailing just 14-12 midway through the game. But Harris-Lake Park got on a role and finished on a 11-4 run to win 25-16.
The final game was all Wolves, who jumped out to leads of 11-1 and 20-4 before H-LP coach Darryl Meyer began substituting out some of the starters. The Titans made a run before the Wolves’ closed out the game 25-12.
The Titans finished with 22 kills in the match led by Toni Alesch with seven while Kylea Fehr and Madison Norris finished with five apiece. Norris had 19 set assists.
Serving, GT/RA was 45-of-51 with two aces. Taylor Park was 12-of-13 with both aces while Emma Heinrichs was 10-of-10.
Defensively, Park finished with 11 digs while Chloe Bakken had 10 and Norris had eight. Fehr, Norris and Sorensen each had one block.
