FORT DODGE – Estherville Lincoln Central’s Taylor Myers was one of two freshmen to finish in the Top 50 of the Class 2A State Cross Country Meet on Saturday in Fort Dodge.
Myers placed 43rd overall in a time of 17 minutes, 34.1 seconds on the 5K course.
ELC coach Tina Burton said she was confident Meyers would finish in the Top 50. They set a goal earlier in the week of trying to get in the Top 25.
“We talked about him have a great start and he’s done a good job of that all season,” said ELC coach Tina Burton. “There’s a sharp right turn on the course early in the race and he needed to be in a position where he didn’t get swallowed up or kicked outside.
“After that, he just had to relax and run his race,” she continued.
Of the 11 freshmen in the race, only Tipton’s Trent Pelzer ran faster, as he finished 37th overall in 17:32. The race featured 140 runners.
“His finish makes me hopeful for the next three years,” said Burton. “Taylor loves to compete and he loves to run so I expect him to do the off-season workouts to get better.”
