Fans got their first look at eight area teams at the Garrigan Girls Basketball Jamboree on Tuesday.

Three area teams took part in the event-Estherville Lincoln Central, Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire and North Union. Each matchup consisted of two regulation quarters of basketball.

Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire led off the night with a 24-21 win over Emmetsburg. North Union won 26-20 over Newman Catholic of Mason City and ELC fell 21-20 to Forest City.

In the Midgets’ contest, ELC trailed most of the way, falling behind 11-5 until a 3-pointer by Josie Condon cut the deficit to 11-8. However, Forest City hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lead 14-8 after the first quarter of play. ELC stilled trailed by six until, 21-15, until Condon hit a 3-pointer to again cut the deficit to three and two free throws by Morgan White made it a one-point game, 21-20 with 2 minutes to go.

Forest City went into a stall mode. ELC came up with a steal, but the Midgets were unable to take the lead. ELC got the ball back with under 4 seconds remaining and Condon last second half-court shot banged off the right side of the rim. She and White both finished with eight points while Lindsey Jensen had four.

In GT/RA’s contest, the Titans led 12-7 after one quarter and, while they never trailed, Emmetsburg cut the lead to two. However, GT/RA would prevail. Toni Alesch led the Titans with 12 points while Emma Heinrichs had six, Anna Sorensen and Madison Hough each had two and Emma Feldhacker and Chloe Bakken each had one.

In North Union’s contest, the Warriors trailed for nearly 12 of the 16 minutes played until Samantha Hagedorn hit a 3-pointer to make it 19-16. Newman Catholic put on full-court pressure, but the Warriors broke through twice with Bre Anderson scoring a pair of layups to put the contest out of reach. Complete scoring from the game was unavailable.
