ELC out-runsTornadoes for Midgets’ second victory
Josie Condon scored 17 points, had six rebounds and five assists as Estherville Lincoln Central defeated Storm Lake, 62-28, in the Lakes Conference opener on Tuesday.
Estherville Lincoln Central jumped out to an 11-0 lead with baskets by Morgan White and Rylee Miller followed by four points from Josie Condon and three from Lindsey Jensen.
However Storm Lake began hitting shots in the last minute and a half to cut the deficit to 11-8.
However, ELC kept up the pressure with a pair of free throws by Jensen starting a 7-0 run in the second quarter. After three points by the Tornadoes, ELC scored the next nine which included Condon’s second 3-pointer of the night and capped by a layup from Katherine Johnson as ELC led 27-11.
Again Storm?Lake hit a pair of baskets before halftime to make it 27-16 at the break. ELC continued to pull away in the third quarter, leading 46-26 to start the final frame.
“We ran the floor well and got some easy looks-that was the key,” said ELC coach Tony Klein. “We also switched defenses and that confused them and helped us.”
Condon shot 5-of-12 from the field, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range.
Lindsey Jensen scored a season-high 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. She also had three assists and two steals.
Morgan White finished with 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Rylee Miller chipped in eight points and had five blocked shots while Molly Diekmann had seven points. Katherine Johnson chipped in four points and Karmen Hazen had two.
ELC (2-3 overall, 1-0 in the Lakes Conference) hosts North Union this evening. The Midgets travel to Cherokee on Friday.
The ELC Junior Varsity lost to Storm Lake 30-27 on Tuesday.
