Anderson advances for NU

MANSON – North Union’s Jake Anderson became the school’s first district qualifier as he finished second at Saturday’s 1A wrestling sectional in Manson on Saturday.

The freshman heavyweight started the day by pinning Okoboji’s Garrett Funk in 3:18 before losing to champion Nate Harris of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire by fall in 1:57. In the wrestleback, Anderson came up with a 9-5 victory over Manson-Northwest Webster’s Alex Jacobsen to advance to this Saturday’s district meet hosted by Okoboji in Milford. Anderson will enter the district meet with a 10-25 record

Andrew Schiltz (170) had the next highest finish for the Warriors as he placed third.

He won the third-place match, 8-3 over Emmetsburg’s Zach Yates, but did not get a wrestleback. Schiltz finishes the season with a 17-14 record.

Also for North Union, Brady Anderson (152), Isaac Engeman (182) and Angel Martinez (195) all placed fourth. Anderson finishes the season 9-23, Engeman finishes the season 27-14 and Martinez finishes the year 18-19.

Marvin Rezac (132), Nate Joyce (145) and Adam Brandt (160) each placed fifth. Rezac finishes the year 22-14, Joyce was 7-23 and Brandt was 12-22.
