Running well in a big race

VERMILLION, S.D. – A second-place finish by Myles McDonald in the 60-meter dash paced the Estherville Lincoln Central Boys Track Team at the Dan Lennon Relays at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion on Tuesday.

In a field of 103 runners, McDonald’s time of 7.36 seconds in the event placed him on the podium.

“It was an outstanding effort by Myles to finish that high in this field of runners,” said ELC coach Dick Barrett.

ELC’s next highest finish was an eighth place in the 3200-meter run as Taylor Myers clocked in a time of 10 minutes, 33.54 seconds in a field of 149.

Myers also finished ninth in the 1600-meter run in 5:04 with Kevin Dong placing 14th in 5:15.

Jacob Heinrichs finished 13th in the 800-meter run in 2:20.59 out of 64 runners. Morgan Dostal placed 31st in the event in 2:31.

The 4×200-meter relay team of Evan Olesen, Ryan McDonald, Robert Sheridan and Myles McDonald placed 13th of 51 entries in 1:42.3.

Riley Theesfeld placed 16th out of 76 runners in the 400-meter dash in 57.9 seconds.

Finally, the distance medley relay team of Ryan McDonald, Sheridan, Heinrichs and Dong placed 18th in 4:07.22.

ELC will travel to Emmetsburg for the first outdoor meet of the season at the Early Bird Triangular on April 4. Spencer completes the triad.
