ELC netters fall to SL-O

The Estherville Lincoln Central Boys Tennis Team started the 2017 at home on Thursday, but fell 8-1 to Spirit Lake-Okoboji.

“We played a little tentatively in our singles matches, but played a lot better as the matches went on and in the doubles,” said ELC coach Tony Klein.

In singles play, Isaac Jorgenson lost 10-1 to Tom Zuendorf, Logan Newhouse lost 10-6 to Logan Newhouse, Trevor Friesner lost 10-2 to Nick Cornwall. Toby Jensen lost 10-1 to Karson Rodriguez. Michael Houseman lost 10-1 to Liam Hamilton-Smith and Jose Saavedra lost 10-3 to Andrew Seeman.

In doubles, Jorgenson and Newhouse lost 10-8 to Zuendorf and Seeman, Friesner and Houseman lost 10-5 to Olsen and Rodriguez and Jensen and Saavedra lost 10-3 to Hamilton-Smith and Jackson Ahrens.

“Isaac and Logan played really well together to win #1 doubles,” said Klein. “It was a really exciting match and neither team was ever up by more than two games.”

ELC had just four junior varsity players. In singles, Ahries Nissen lost 8-2, JT Christensen lost 8-0, Nic McClurg lost 8-0 and Edwin Morales lost 8-0. In doubles, Nissen and Christensen lost 8-1 and McClurg and Morales lost 8-0.

In one exhibition match, Nissen won 6-2.

ELC is on the road against Spencer on Monday.
