ELC golfers finish third at quadrangular
LIVERMORE – Estherville Lincoln Central didn’t quite bring its best golf on Thursday in a quadrangular meet hosted by Bishop Garrigan on Thursday.
Lakes Conference rival Spencer won the meet with 155 while host Bishop Garrigan finished with a 171 followed by ELC with a 171. St. Edmond of Fort Dodge shot a 173.
Jacob Bosch led ELC with a 39 while Hunter Wheatley shot a 40 and Trey Jacobson and Izaak Sander each shot a 46. Non-counting scores were a 47 by Blake Miller and a 48 by Collin Wodtke.
“Jacob led the way with a 39, that included a triple bogey (which was a result of poor coaching),” said ELC coach Dave Van Roekel. “Hunter Wheatley has really settled in, and had a double bogey free 40. Sometimes it’s the trials we face that take us to the next level.
“Whether it’s playing or coaching, sometimes we are not at our best,” he continued.?”But, if the result of our trials is a better mental approach, and laser like focus, then those trials were a blessing in disguise. I’m very excited for the week ahead for these young men, and I know without a doubt that they will embrace the competition in front of them!”
