ELC declaws Cougars, 64-38
MANSON – Class 3A No. 11 Estherville Lincoln Central built a 22-point half-time lead and cruised to a 64-38 in the season opener against Manson-Northwest Webster on Monday.
In her debut, freshman Jordyn Stokes led ELC with 20 points while shooting 8-of-10 from the field including 2-of-3 from 3-point range and 2-of-2 from the free throw line.
Sophomore Jaydan Nitchals chipped in 18 points, shooting 6-of-11 from the filed, including 5-of-7 from the 3-point line. Kaitlyn Tendal tossed in 16 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field, going 1-of-3 from 3-point range.
ELC shot 50 percent for the game (24-of-48) while shooting 57 percent (8-of-14) from 3-point range. The Midgets have some work to do at the free throw line, where they were 8-of-18.
Amara Heinrichs chipped in five points to go along with three assists. Gabby Paul had three points and Laura Humble had two. ELC had 12 steals led by Stokes with two and Brei Christoffer and Tendal each with two. Tendal also led ELC rebounding effort with eight boards.
The Midgets led 19-8 after one quarter, 39-17 at halftime, and 51-29 after three quarters.
ELC (1-0 overall) hosts Algona on Monday and heads to Sioux Rapids on Tuesday to play Sioux Central.
