Bonner headed out
With the resignation of Gable Bonner this week, Estherville Lincoln Central will begin searching for a new head wrestling coach for the 2020-21 season. The high school math teacher also served as assistant football coach, as well as the throwing coach for both the boys and girls track teams.
Bonner will teach high school math while his wife will be the 7-12 guidance counselor at South O’Brien School in Paullina.
“I greatly appreciate the opportunities that ELC has provided me as well as the professional guidance and support that has allowed me to grow within my first years of teaching and coaching,” Bonner stated in his letter. “Although I will greatly miss my teaching and coaching positions, my colleagues and the school community, I have found a teaching and coaching position which allows me to be closer to my wife and her new counseling position. I love being in my hometown of Estherville and teaching and coaching where I grew up. However, I feel this is the right time to move on to new challenges and opportunities, and is the best move for myself and my wife.”
Bonner took over the ELC wrestling program with Ethan Pierson during the 2016-17 season and then became head coach the following season in 2017-18.
Bonner graduated from ELC in 2012 and was a four-sport athlete for the Midgets, competing in wrestling, football, baseball, and track.
