The Algona/Estherville Lincoln Central High School Girls Swim Team dropped a dual to Ft. Dodge 122-42 on Thursday. Despite the loss the team showed much improvement in placing and scoring over their last meet. There were 32 events the girls were entered in and 16 of them showed a drop in times from the last meet. The time drops are from different girls and relays in the meets.

“It was a very pleasing to see the girls come out and compete again tonight with the time drops and high finishes, and scoring points against a team that is usually in contention for state title considerations,” said coach Jim Fisher.

Cathryn Houge swam a season-best time of 2 minutes, 57.19 seconds in the 200 individual medley to place first.

Second-place finishes went to Madi Gifford in the 50 free in 29.74, and the 100 backstroke by Kaitlyn Pollock in 1:19.17. Also second, with a season-best time of 4:56.96, was the 400 freestyle relay team of Quimby Ross, Emily Paulson, Emma Ross and Josie Wiita.

Third place went to the 200 medley relay team of Paulson, Houge, Pollock and Gifford in 2:26.39, Justice Fehr in the 200 freestyle in 2:57.04 (a season best), Quimby Ross in the 50 freestyle in 30.02 (SB) and Pollock in the 100 butterfly in 1:15.18 and the 200 freestyle relay team of Paulson, Emma and Quimby Ross and Gifford in 2:08.61.

Faith Huber had a 20 second drop in the 500 free.

Algona/ELC is off until Oct. 6, when the team travels to Perry.
