ELC netters post 2-2 record at North Iowa

BUFFALO CENTER — Coming off two straight wins earlier in the week, the Estherville Lincoln Central Volleyball Team wrapped up play on Saturday with a 2-2 record at the North Iowa Tournament.

ELC opened the day with a 21-13, 2-13 win over West Fork, then lost 21-11, 21-16 to North Butler before bouncing back to beat West Bend-Mallard 24-22, 21-16. ELC ended the day with a 21-16, 21-17 loss to host North Iowa.

“We had our ups and downs at the tournament,” said ELC coach Jean Jensen. “We missed way too many serves and struggled some with serve receive, which made it hard to attack the ball.”

Brenna Evans led the ELC attack for the tournament with 18 kills while Maggie White had 11, Maddie Norton had nine, Kya Thiel had seven, and Alivia Danner, Piper Quastad, and Gabby Paul each had three. Paul had 37 set assists and Kendyl Ruschy had 12.

Defensively, Adelee Reinhardt had 24 digs, White had 22, Norton had 19, Danner had 12, Thiel had eight, Paul had four, Ruschy had three and Evans had one.

Serving for ELC, Paul was 17-of-18 with two aces, Thiel was 18-of-20, Ruschy was 13-of-15 with two aces, Reinhardt was 18-of-21 with two aces, Norton was 22-of-26 with three aces, and Danner and White each were 19-of-23 with two aces.

“Brenna had a great tournament, leading the team in kills,” said Jensen. “She is really coming on strong lately. In the game against West Bend, she had nine kills with only one hitting error. She was a leader on the court.

“Gabby Paul came in and did a really nice job setting,” the coach said. “She had a lot of hustle and dig a good job serving. Piper Quastad also came in and did a good job in the front row for us.”

ELC (13-21 overall) hosts Storm Lake today.
