Tornadoes surge past ELC

After winning the first game 25-18 against Storm Lake on Monday, Estherville Lincoln Central couldn’t get completely on track as the Tornadoes swept the final three games by scores of 25-21, 25-21, and 25-22.

ELC had jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the opening game with Storm Lake battling to tie the game before the Midgets pulled away for the win.

However, Storm Lake stepped up the rest of the night and ELC could never quite regain the momentum.

Kya Thiel and Maddie Norton led the ELC attack with nine kills each while Brenna Evans had seven, Maggie White and Alivia Danner each had six and Piper Quastad had one. Kendyl Ruschy had 30 set assists.

Serving, White was 21-21 with an ace, Danner was 13-14 with two aces, Norton was 10-11 with an ace, Adelee Reinhardt was 8-9 with an ace, Ruschy was 11-13 with two aces and Kya Thiel was 17-20 with an ace.

Reinhardt led the ELC back-row defense with 25 digs while White had 13, Norton had 11, Ruschy had eight, Danner had six and Thiel had three. ELC had 11 blocks with Danner and Evans each with three whiel Norton and Thiel each had two.

ELC (13-22 overall) travels to Spirit Lake on Monday for a Class 3A Region Quarterfinal.

In junior varsity play, ELC won 21-17, 21-12 over Storm Lake. The ELC freshman team won 21-15, 22-20.
