Warriors fall in four sets to Indians
POCAHONTAS — North Union’s volleyball season ended with a hard-fought four set match against Pocahontas Area in a Class 2A Region game on Monday.
Pocahontas cruised in the first set 25-15, but the Warriors came back with a 25-21 win in the second set. The Indians responded with a 25-18 in set three and then held off the Warriors 26-24 in the fourth set.
Anna Longhenry recorded nearly half of North Union’s kills with 18 of the team’s 40. Olivia Von Bank had nine kills and Sam Nielsen had seven. Lily Henderson finished with 23 set assists and Libby Stevens had five.
Carly Jahnssen led Pocahontas (11-14) with 17 of her team’s 28 kills.
Emily Meyer led North Union’s back-row defense with 16 digs while Von Bank had 12, Henderson had 10 and Longhenry had nine. Shayla Reese had three blocks and Von Bank and Nielsen each had two.
North Union finished 75-of-83 serving with 10 aces. Stevens was 15-of-17 with four aces, Henderson was 16-of-18 with three aces, Meyer was 16-of-16 with an ace and Longhenry was 14-of-16 with an ace.
North Union finishes a 5-16 season. The Warriors bid farewell to four volleyball seniors–Olivia Guerdet, Shayla Reese, Carys Fuller, and Abby Deitering.
Golden Bears sweep Titans in 1A regional
ALGONA — Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire’s volleyball season came to an end with a Class 1A Region loss to Bishop Garrigan on Monday.
The Golden Bears swept the Titans by scores of 25-14, 25-11, and 25-16. Audi Crooks led Garrigan with nine kills.
Titan stats were not available on Wednesday.
GT/RA wraps up a 0-21 season.
