Duitsman ends first season in 50th at State
FORT DODGE — Estherville Lincoln Central freshman Parker Duitsman wrapped up his inagurual season at the Class 2A State Cross Country Meet on Saturday.
Duitsman clocked a time of 18 minutes, 18 seconds on the 5K course at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge. That placed him 50th overall. He was the fourth freshman to finish the race.
“I feel good,” said Duitsman after the race. “The wind really took a lot out of me, but this was a great experience and I really enjoyed it.”
“Parker ran a good race with the wind blowing and the level of competition. Parker went out and did a great job,” said ELC coach Jesse Nitchals. “I was really proud of the effort and the determination he had during the race.”
The three freshmen who finished ahead of Duitsman were all from Western Christian. Noah DeWeerd placed 30th, Uchan Harberts placed 27th and Caleb Douma placed 44th.
The Class 2A individual title went to Caleb Shumaker of Tipton, who beat the field by 37 seconds with his time of 16:13. Two runners from Danville/New London were neck and neck for second and third. Danville/New London won the team title with 64 points. Tipton was 22 points behind to finish second with 86 points. One hundred thirty-nine runners competed in the 2A race.
“Again, congratulations to Parker on an excellent freshman season,” said Nitchals. “It was a great season and I can’t wait to see him build on it.”
Duitsman also thanks all those who supported him Saturday and throughout the season.
