ELC tested in preseason scrimmage

By David Swartz - Managing Editor | Nov 22, 2020

The Estherville Lincoln Central girls got a good test prior to the start of the 2020-21 season with a scrimmage against Bishop Garrigan on Thursday. The Golden Bears, who finished as state runners-up in Class 1A, a year ago, return most of the key components of that team including 6-3 sophomore center Audi Crooks.

Garrigan jumped out to an early lead, but ELC rallied late in the second quarter with Kaitlyn Tendal tying the game at 21-21 on a 3-pointer. The Golden Bears retook the lead on a 3-pointer of their own and led 28-22 at the break. Garrigan hit from long range in the third quarter to push their advantage. ELC drove inside Garrigan’s 2-3 zone more often in the second half, but couldn’t get the floaters to drop and trailed 42-28 in the final frame. The fourth quarter was closer, but the Bears won 53-36.

ELC opens its 2020-21 season Tuesday at home against Manson-Northwest Webster.
