Midgets do well in scrimmage with Garrigan
The Estherville Lincoln Central Boys Basketball Team scrimmage Bishop Garrigan in preparation for the 2020-21 season on Thursday in Estherville.
While official scoring wasn’t kept, the Midgets won 70-60 over the Golden Bears. The two teams were tied 18-18 after one quarter, but then the Midgets held the visitors to just six points in the second quarter while Will Larson, Adrian Vaughn and Owen Larson each hit 3-pointers in the period to build a 41-25 lead at the break.
ELC struggled to hit shots to start the third quarter, while Garrigan made an 11-2 run. However 3-pointers by Kevin Egeland, Vaughn and Blake Ingvall helped stretch the lead back to double digits with ELC leading 56-43 after three quarters.
Will Larson, who struggled to find the mark in the third quarter, scored eight straight points to start the fourth, as ELC built its biggest lead at 64-43. Coach Nick Gruhlke allowed the bench to get more court time down in the final minutes allowing Garrigan to close the gap.
ELC officially opens the season on the road at Algona on Nov. 30.
